Global Link Popularity of Site
The more links on the net pointing to a website, the more the votes there are for that website. Think of each link as an individual vote that carries a differing weight. Think of a scale of 0 to 1. With a zero meaning the link has little or no value at all, and a one meaning the link has a maximum value. So 1000 links from low quality websites may not mean much at all. Think of the math behind this, 1000 x .001 would equal 1. In comparison 10 links from high-quality websites may be 10x1 equals 10. So all these links added together all across the Internet on every blog, social networking place, twitter, you name it, all contribute to the global link popularity of a website. One key thing you must remember here is that the worst you can do is zero. There is a lot of scare out there about people buying and selling links, but just remember 1000 x 0 is still only zero. Therefore the worst you can ever do is just not have your links counted. That's why some of the top gurus out there still suggest buying links whenever possible. It will not hurt it will only help. And it can only be this way. Think about it. If this was not the case all I would have to do is go buy 500 really crappy links and point them at my competitor
